Jean Cunion makes ceramic pieces that reflect the beauty and diversity of the natural world – particularly the wild birdlife of North Yorkshire, the moors and coast – as well as the abundance of birds in her garden and surrounding farmland.
The pieces are slab-built with incised details, then coloured with slips and underglazes.
She is fascinated by the varied, intricate and colourful plumage of birds. Through her art she seeks to capture and stylise the essence of each bird’s unique characteristics and their diverse behaviours.
Jean’s pots are bold and charming in equal measure. Each one is a tribute to the joy and pleasure wild birds contribute to our lives.
