Claire Baxter was born in Harrogate in 1978 and, as a child, was never happier than with a pack of crayons and a colouring book.
Throughout school she enjoyed success in Art, progressing via GCSE and ‘A’ level to a BTEC Art and Design course at Harrogate College.
Claire eventually changed direction and completed a BA Hons. Degree in Fashion Design at Salford University in 2001. Further direction changes eventually saw her qualify as a Teacher of Art in 2007, teaching 11-18 year olds.
She now paints professionally and started supplying Whitby Galleries in 2013. She says:
“Working in oil, my inspiration comes from people-watching and how we interact with the elements such as wind and rain. Influences such as Jack Vettriano, Beryl Cook and Alexander Millar have encouraged me to be true to myself and paint what I enjoy and what makes me smile.”
